Last week saw the return of Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival. For one week every year this small town in the middle of Ireland plays host to one of the most colorful, vibrant events in the midlands.
The event attracts visitors from far and wide, with some even flying home from afar to take part!
The festival is an amazing opportunity for both adults and children to experience the arts by attending one of the many events held in Birr throughout the week.
My favorite event, by far has always been the vintage parade. It wonderful to see people from all over the county come together to create such a fun, colorful parade. Thankfully the weather was great this year and I was able to get some great shots of the parade. Below are a few of my favorites.
First up came the immaculately turned out carriage horses and ponies. The smaller ponies were adorable!

Next up was a regular at The Vintage Parade. This steam engine is incredible. It was orginally brought down from Dublin. It moved so slowly that the journey took days. It was then used for threshing in north Tipperary. I love everything about this engine. The sound of the steam whistle was so nostalgic.

Then came the colorful costumes and props. I’m always in awe of how talented the kids are.

As this year marks the 100 year anniversary of the Easter Rising it was no surprise to see the centenary represented in the parade.
Local children dressed up and played homage to the children killed during the rising by showing the names and ages of all who perished. The costumes were fantastic.
And of course what would a vintage parade be without the obligatory vintage cars? Here were some of my favorites.
It’s been a dream of mine to own a Volkswagen van. What makes this one special is that this is the original paint work and rust!

I loved this car. I didn’t catch the name but with the two boys on top it reminded me of something from an old gangster movie!
The parade was really fantastic this year and I’d like to say a huge well done to all those involved. Your hard work really paid off.
